The 12th Month Of A Baby’s Life

Throughout the 12th month of your baby’s life, the little one will be more full of allusions than ever when it comes to trying new foods.
The 12th month of a baby's life
In your baby’s 12th month of life, he will start to understand a lot. It is also the time when he becomes more selective about what he wants to eat and what he does not want to eat.
Therefore, it is important to choose foods that contain the nutrients that your baby needs. These nutrients will help your baby with a healthy development, and contribute to better growth through early childhood.
.
Nutrition through this stage is incredibly important. Around the 12th month, babies start to change their habits according to food.
To improve your baby’s nutrition, you can incorporate biscuits, ham, eggs (egg whites are high in protein), fish, cheese, and some types of canned food (such as tuna).

You can also introduce new vegetables, such as cauliflower and turnips. In other words, your baby is now ready to try these gas-producing vegetables that you avoided in previous months.

Spinach and beets are also a good option. These vegetables should be avoided until the baby is 12 months old as they can cause iron metabolism problems such as methemoglobinemia.

To feed your baby through the 12th month

As your little baby approaches his first birthday, you can start by mashing his food with a fork. Although pureed food seems practical, it is better to avoid it, and give your child the opportunity to chew a little.

Learning to be fat is an important part of early stimulation.

  • Tomato. You can add tomatoes to your baby’s meal, but be sure to wash them first. It is best to peel them too. Tomatoes have a great nutritional value. They contribute vitamin C, a myriad of antioxidants and are high in fiber.
  • Dry pickled fruits. Such as lentils, chickpeas and beans. You can cook them with vegetables, and add a little rice.
    • These foods contribute a good amount of vitamins, minerals and fiber to your little baby. When your baby reaches the age of 18 months, you can give him whole legumes (as they are, with skins).
  • Yogurt, cheese and cow’s milk. You can serve these things for breakfast, lunch or dinner. What is important is that you remember that your child should consume 500 ml of milk, or derivatives thereof, a day.
    • Milkshakes are a good variety, such as yogurt or cheese, along with fruit of your choice. That way, your baby will have an even  greater variety of vitamins and minerals.
    • Avoid greasy cheeses and yogurts with added sugar.
    • Added sugar is not a necessary part of your child’s diet, as fruits have a natural, high sugar content. In fact,  none of these three ingredients are necessary,  but can be used in limited quantities to add flavor to your baby’s meals:  salt, sugar and honey. Your baby can now enjoy these ingredients, but in very small amounts. When it comes to salt, you should choose a salt with added iodine.

Stimulation in the 12th month

In the 12th month of your baby’s life, he will probably start having tantrums and outbursts. This is perfectly normal.

It is also the stage where your baby will begin to develop his language, and  interact more verbally.

When it comes to toys, you should always stay away from those that contain small pieces  so that your baby does not try to swallow them.

A popular option, for kids this age, is, a set of building blocks that can be stacked to make a tower.

Certain types of toys – such as buckets with geometrically shaped holes that have bricks to fit each hole – can be fun and educational at the same time. They help your baby differentiate between shapes and colors while he plays.

You can also give the little one a toy mobile with sounds and lights.

More suitable toys for your baby

There are plenty of opportunities out there  to stimulate your baby’s learning from an early age.

It is good to buy high quality toys that meet current safety standards so you avoid exposing your child to any kind of danger.

Here are some toy suggestions you can look for:

  • Small books with textures, music and pictures.
  • Dolls and cars in different shapes and sizes.
  • All pieces of toys that can be assembled, toys that your child can push or pull, geometric shapes, etc ..
  • Musical instruments. Wind instruments – such as a toy flute – are a particularly good idea as they accelerate the development of language. Xylophones are also a great instrument to help with the development of the language.

Weight and size

At this stage, your child’s height should be between 72 and 75 cm, for both boys and girls.

At the same time, a 12-month-old baby usually weighs between 9.3 kg and 9.8 kg, and has a full skull circumference, of about 45.5 cm.

Most babies, at this stage, already have their first 4 front teeth and their first 4 cheek teeth.
